Green Day ’s singer Billie Joe Armstrong is making his lead role debut in the upcoming film Ordinary World. He stars as Perry Miller, a former punk rocker settling into suburban life.
Originally titled Geezer, the film was later renamed after a song Armstrong wrote for it. The song is also the last track on Green Day’s forthcoming album Revolution Radio.
Ordinary World first premiered at Tribeca Film Festival, at which two-thirds of Green Day played a surprise show with Joan Jett. A trailer for the film has surfaced online yesterday. You can watch it below.
CAST: Billie Joe Armstrong, Selma Blair, Judy Greer, Chris Messina, Fred Armisen, John Doman, Brian Baumgartner, Madisyn Shipman, Dallas Roberts
DIRECTOR: Lee Kirk
PLOT: The story follows former punk rocker Perry (Billie Joe Armstrong) who is ten years into his band’s “indefinite hiatus” and is struggling with his adjustment to the real world (which includes working in his family’s hardware store). When Perry’s hotshot attorney wife (Selma Blair) and precocious young daughter forget his 40th birthday, his brother (Chris Messina) takes pity and gives him the money to throw a huge rockstar blowout in a fancy New York hotel. At the party, Perry’s punk past clashes hilariously with his middle-aged reality as he encounters crazy former bandmates and an old-flame-turned-manager (Judy Greer), who offers him a chance to revive his stalled career.
