Walt Garrison’s second wife is Debbie Garrison. The former NFL star has previously married. Pamela Phillips, whom he married on June 30, 1967, was his first wife. Their love, however, was brief, since they divorced on August 30, 1985. But our protagonist, Walt, was a hopeless romantic. He would never give up on love and would always trust in it.

So, less than a year later, on August 23, 1986, Walt married his second wife, Debbie Garrison. Debbie Garrison and Walt Garrison met on the rodeo circuit, where they each performed during their respective seasons. Their first meeting was during an ‘endorsement’ round, and they quickly became friends.

Debbie Garrison described their interaction to the Oklahoman as follows: “He was promoting tobacco products, and I also had promotions.” We met when we happened to run into each other at western store openings and the like.” Walt and Debbie married in August 1986 and had a beautiful marriage for almost two decades before divorcing in 2005.

Remembering Walt, The Cowboys’ Superstar

Debbie was a rodeo queen who grew up loving the sport and eventually made it to the professional circuit. Debbie Garrison won the title of Miss Rodeo America in 1979. She also joined the Pro Women’s Rodeo Association, where she routinely delivered outstanding performances.

When asked about rodeo queen competitions, she stated, “Some people believe it’s rigged in rodeo queen contests.” When it comes to rodeoing, however, it’s a very different scenario. This is entirely contingent on your performance.” To be close to the rodeo, the couple made their home in Argyle, Texas, throughout their marriage.

“We have 23 acres, and we live above a horse barn,” Debbie explained. We built it this way so we could hear the horses if something went wrong. Our goal was to have our land on which to reside, keep horses, and build an arena.” Walt Garrison’s long and happy marriage to Debbie ended in 2005, after which they had two children, the most notable of whom was their son Marty.

In memory of Walt, Walt Garrison, a tenacious running back for the Dallas Cowboys in the 1960s and 1970s and a member of the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, died Friday at the age of 79. The Cowboys revealed his passing on their official website on Thursday. The statement made no mention of the time, place, or reason for his death.

Garrison, a true Texan who resembled the famous blue star that graced the Cowboys’ 50-yard line, was not only a formidable ball carrier but also the team’s de facto mascot. In his long-running Skoal smokeless tobacco advertising, he was frequently shown with a wisp of tobacco between his cheek and gum.

Garrison’s accent sounded like a twanging pedal steel guitar. His cowboy hat collection seemed to stretch as far as the Rio Grande. In his back pocket was always a sharp knife, ready to whittle sticks.
